JUNGLES, CULTURE AND ELEPHANTS
Sri Lanka boasts stunning national parks, perfect for nature lovers, where you can watch mighty elephants play in the lakes of Udawalawe or marvel the beautiful fauna and flora in Yala where, if you’re lucky, you might also spot a wild leopard. Head further inland to the sacred site of Sithulpawwa to visit the ancient Buddhist monastery. Curious travellers can venture to nearby caves displaying paintings dating back over 2000 years.
In the rich, lush forests you can experience the wilderness by glamping on the riverside, waking to see the sunrise from your luxury tent. You could stay on a tea planation, heading into the clouds where you will find traditionally dressed women tending the neatly arranged tea plantations and monkeys playing along the roadsides. Walking the hills you will also find isolated waterfalls where you can jump in for a swim, or even a sacred Buddhist temple nestled between the estates.
Climb to the top of Sigiriya Rock where the ancient fortress ruins lie and gaze across mile upon mile of rice paddies fading into the distance. From one mighty rock to the scenic mountains, you can immerse yourself into Sri Lankan culture in the highland city of Kandy, visiting the Temple of the Tooth whilst learning of the ancient stories it holds.
